Still Alive!

"Still alive, believe me I'm still alive, I'll be doing science while and I'm still alive," as GlaDOS would say.

I've been busy with school and other stuff; new post in the future.
Stuff I will write about soon includes:
- Half-Life 2: Lost Coast.
- Half-Life 2: Death Match.
- Half-Life 2, HL2: Episode 1, and Episode 2.
And how I got them all for free and legally.

- Gurren Lagan.
- Okami for the Wii
- Akira
- iPod problems
- And a HUGE post about Spore.
- etc.

So keep your eye on the blog and I should possibly have one up this weekend. But it is not like this matters since I only have like 1 reader, Hi Grandpa! (Post a comment if this is not true.)

For now, I'm off to see if I can find Counter Strike Source and volumes 4 & 5 of Akira.
Then later today, it's off to the Homecoming Dance.

Later,
Forrest

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED C.E. 73 STARGAZER

Everyone has that first Anime, for me it was Gundam SEED. I watched every episode on Cartoon Network, even with all the laser gun censoring and the crazy scene cutting. Gundam SEED is the reason why I fell in love with anime and is the reason why I'm a huge Gundam Fan boy. I build the models, read the manga side stories, and yell, "Space Colony" and "Seig Zeon!" at the Gundam Experience panel at conventions.

Despite what others might say about the Cosmic Era of Gundam shows, It's still my favorite era. So I owed it to myself to watch Mobile Suit Gundam SEED C.E. 73 STARGAZER. The 45-some odd minutes movie takes place between Gundam SEED and SEED Destiny. Although, It more or likes takes place in the very beginning of SEED Destiny when the Space Colony Junius 7 is dropped on the Earth causing mass destruction. The movie is more of a side story rather than a stand alone movie wedge between the two series like the creators were probably intending to do. The story is mostly about an experimental unit called 'Stargazer' that was built with the intentions of A.I.-driven deep space exploration using some solar sail. But Phantom Pain has other plans.

I don't want to spoil anything else, but overall the movie is defiantly worth watching if you're a fan of Gundam or want to get a more complete sense of the Cosmic Era of Gundam. The only downside of the movie, was the super weak ending battle. Since I watched the movie version of the 3 show series, it would of helped to have watch the series, since not much was explained.

Being a Gundam fan, I most defiantly watch for the Mechs. The Strike Noir, Verde Buster, and the Stargazer were some of the coolest Gundam I've seen in a while. I've already bought a MG 1/100th Strike Noir and I will defiantly be adding a the other two my collecting sometime in the future.

Overall the movie and the show gets a watch, but don't bother buying a Japanese region locked DVD.

Firefox add-ons: Piclens

I was recently looking for some Firefox add-ons that I commonly use on my PC for my Mac, and I ran across a cool add-on called PicLens. This Mac and PC add-on, adds the use to browse through multiple photos on Flickr and videos YouTube at once. It's pretty much an eye candy app, but I found it useful to show my Flickr photos of my week at my summer camp in a nice slide show. The link is: Cooliris, inc. how you all enjoy and just try it out, you can always uninstall it.

Marathon, Not the Race, The Classic Game

So for the past year I've been keeping my self-busy with some old school classics and some free games. The reason why I've have been doing this is because being broke sucks and I got to keep myself entertained. There’s one I found in the deeps of the Internet.

This Macintosh classic called Marathon is made by the same folks who brought you other classics such as Oni and The Halo trilogy. Now, If you know Marathon and played quite a bit of Halo, than you would know that there are many Marathon references in the game. What got me interested the game at first was from my recently peeked interest in the love of old Macs and Apple computers. After some searching on Google I found the site source.bungie.org and was surprised to find that there has been a community of people of have made, with bungie’s blessing, an open source version of the game that can updated with high quality textures to make the game seem almost new. The game is available for all three major operation systems, yes that means Linux. The game was made in 1994 and was a smashing success, it went on to create two sequels, Marathon 2: Durandle and Marathon Infinity. The game has a great feel and flawless controls, with little to no bugs, glitches and other things that most older games suffered from; this is one heck of a game.
What stands out the most to me is the music. Unlike other older games where the music is added later or not at all. In Marathon the music has a techno, rock style to it that is the best. My personal favorite is one called ‘Aliens Again(?)’ it’s in one of the early levels of the game, and is one of the best.
Unlike other games, The story and missions are told though Terminals. Terminals are a big part of the game. Saving, healing, and mission briefs are all told though these.
What is also quiet impressive is the art, the characters are two-dimensional on a three-dimensional background. It gives it a very comic book like feeling that is not seen much in games. This style on 2-D on 3-D is pulled off even better than Paper Marion.
What made Marathon so popular, as well as Halo, is its multilayer. Huge LAN games on Apple Talk networks where extremely popular back in the 90’s. As for in this version, It’s Internet play is pretty good, but I haven’t played enough MP to give a finally verdict. The reason is that it is pretty difficult to get a game going, since most people don’t play online. So if anyone interested a time can be set a later date. I recommend this game for everyone, Try it, update the textures and enjoy!

So get out there and kill some freaking Aliens.

How My Review Score Works

How my rating system works for reviews.
For shows and Movies, It goes, Rent / Borrow, Buy, or Pass.
The same goes for rating other media as well. I'm someone who hates rating systems.

I also wanted to note that in no way am I receiving any cash or copies of review material from a sponsor and most likely never will.

Does anyone read this blog other than me?

So I don't know if or how to know how many view I've gotten so far. Just comment me if you do read this.

Gameing on the Mac.

It's common belief that the Mac has no games on it. Well, you're wrong. With an application called Cross Over Games, I was able to get Portal and Steam to work on my MacBook Pro. I've been playing Portal on high graphic options and other than a few graphic hiccups it been working great. This is a great alternative to using VMware and Boot Camp. The reason why virtualation won't work is because lack of support on virtual machines.
Mac games, Steam on a Mac, Portal on a Mac.

High School Musical 3? NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

The first High School Musical was terrible, I moaned though the first, Threw up at the second. I thought the torture was over, but no; Disney has to beat the franchise to death with exactly the same plot as the last 2. Shame on you Disney, I wished you go back to cartoons and not shitty teen movies.

Code Geass: Crap?

Well, I'm doing a marathon of the show Code Geass. The basic plot is: holy crap Britian took over Japan, and now call them ellevens. Yeah, pretty dumb, but it so far is half way deciente. We'll see where I stand later today.

What does Morio-Kun Mean

Morio-kun is the name given to me by my Japanese teacher. Mori means forest, the 'O' is short for Otako, which means man. So my sensei added it together to make Morio, and the kun is like mr. or mrs. but is used between boys of or around the same age or who are peers. ex: a teenage kid name Bob would be called Bob-kun by his friend or a by a girl who is a classmate or friend. It looks like this in Japanese.

The Beginning of the End

After posting blog like topics on the Front Row Crew Forum I though it was high time that I finaly start my own. With the long failure of a project of my website, Morio-kun Studios.com, I thought that a blog would also seem appropriate since I have no clue how the hell to get Word Press to work.

Just to introduce myself. My real name is Forrest, I live I live in the Milwaukee area in Wisconsin. I'm just another punk 17 year old kind who probably, or does, think he knows everything. I usually spend my days playing video games, working on my computers, or hanging with friends. I like Anime, video games, Gundam, Dance Dance Revolution, and Macintosh computers. I'm Hard-of-hearing, which sometimes have causes me to have not so good grammer.

I'll try to post atleast once to twice a week, or when every I feel like.

Cheers! (or Later),

Forrest a.k.a Morio.
